Children's Art Competition 2019
Here are the entries for the 2019 Letchworth Festival Children's Art Competition.
Please look through all the pictures in the three age categories.
Voting closed at 5pm on Thursday 27 June. A big thank you to everyone who voted.
Transition Town Letchworth and Norton Way Gallery have sponsored this year competition which had the theme ‘Go Wild In the Garden’. Children were asked to either create a picture of the wildlife they see in their garden or install a feature into their garden to help wildlife. We had 425 fantastic entries which have been displayed in the Town Centre for our Festival fortnight.
There are lots of ideas in the entries for how we can improve our gardens to make them more wildlife friendly, ranging from planting schemes through to bug homes and hedgehog houses. The simple addition of a shallow dish of water can make all the difference, especially on hot days like we have experienced on the final Festival weekend.
We would like to thank all those children who took part and Jack at the Garden City Shopping Centre and the Heritage Foundation Team at the Community Museum who helped us with displaying the artwork. Our thanks also to Shepreth Wildlife Park, who have a hedgehog hospital, the RSPB, Friends of the Earth and The Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust who all donated competition prizes.
Ten schools took part in the competition along with the 2nd Letchworth Rainbows and 18th Letchworth Brownies. Thanks to their leaders and teachers for finding time to help the children join in with the competition and for the extra activities that have taken place to help children learn about caring for wildlife.
